Welcome to the world of Mortal Spirit, a fantasy game in which your experience connects you to the main game character in a way that has never been explored before.
The game has been created with a rich attention to detail. Every asset, enemy and NPC has a story. But story is just one aspect of this game. Actually, there are so many aspects to this game that there has to be a long post explaining it all. This is that post.
You play as a character named Host. Host is a spirit, a type of advanced, ghostly humans who live in a world parallel to ours. In fact, there are three parallel worlds: the Spirit World, the Human World, and the Monster World. Out of the three, only the spirits have complete knowledge of the existence of the worlds, and they can teleport between them, albeit with some difficulty, using glyphs that act as doorways between the worlds. But recently, an evil spirit named Castodan has somehow trained the animal-like monsters, and is leading an attack against the Human World. Host, an inventor, is summoned by the spirit council to singlehandedly put an end to Castodan's attacks. But the menace Castodan poses is greater then it at first glance appears.
THE SPIRITS
Ghostly, pale, yet immensely strong, the spirits are a higher form of intelligence then humans. They carry almost no regard for education of any kind, because they know from birth more then years and years of study could ever teach. Each spirit is born with a unique magical ability that will somehow change their destiny, and their destiny is magically imbued upon their eye. While the words are sometimes vague, each spirit hones their own kind of ability during their first ten years of existence. Host, for instance, has the words, "One born to save us all" written on the iris of his eye. His ability is a physical memory; he learns a move once and he knows it forever. When spirits visit Earth, humans often confuse them with loved ones, and as a result, ghost stories were invented. Nowadays, when spirits visit Earth, they are usually required to disguise themselves in such a way that they will not frighten passersby.
THE MONSTERS
Animalistic and sometimes downright scary, the monsters are usually passive and act out of pure need. When the monsters come to Earth, it is almost always because of humans tampering with summoning magic. When they do come, humans have written down sightings of them, resulting in many well known stories. Leprechauns, jabberwocks, imps, goblins, monsters from greek, egyptian, bible and norse mythology, and even monsters from urban legends are all based on types of monsters from the Monster World.
CHARACTERS
HOST
Host is an inventor, but he's also learned a lot about fighting due to his advanced physical memory. While Host's inventions may look shoddy at first, he fine-tunes them by figuring out new attacks and improving his design. While battling, Host can absorb the fallen monsters' souls to re-energize.
CASTODAN
A ruthless, evil spirit who has undergone an ancient ritual that all spirits can preform: merging with a monster to become a monster/spirit hybrid, and is now immensely strong and infamously smart.
Castodan has somehow tamed the monsters and trained them to attack the Human World. The Spirit World may be next.
WEAPONS
During the course of the game, Host builds many, many weapons, each with many prototype levels. Some of the weapons that will not be included in the demo are:
THE SAWCHAIN
![]() |
| the Chainhammer |
ATOMIC CLAWS
The Atomic Claws are large glove-like weapons that allow Host to climb up walls, grapple distant walls, smash through enemies faster with the rocket launchers on the back of the gloves, and even remote control one glove to attack distant enemies.
But we'll stop teasing you with weapons you'll won't get for quite some time. The weapon you will be using in the demo is the Chainhammer, two wheels wrapped in chains connected to each other with a base that connects to the handle. With it, Host can smash and cut his way through enemies.
MORE GAME INFO
The demo is being released with one weapon, the Chainhammer, that only goes up to Prototype 1, (the level progression is 0, 0.1, 0.2, etc). Host, for the first part of the game, is weakened. This sequence will be longer in the final game, but because the demo is short, (on the easiest setting and without breaks, 40 minutes) this sequence will not be that long. The demo ends with a boss battle with Castodan, but the final game will have many, many bosses. There are roughly 30 missions in the game, each takes around five minutes, so depending on whether you want to rush through them or take your time the demo will be short or long.
Hope that answers most if not all of your questions involving future posts.
